Uzbekistan’s demand for plastic pipes is jointly driven by agriculture and infrastructure construction. Local production capacity only meets 60% of domestic demand, so the country relies heavily on imports of mid-to-low-end pipes from China. Buyers prioritize overall cost performance, and the certification threshold is lower than that of Russia.
Agricultural irrigation constitutes the largest rigid demand. Low-pressure HDPE pipes of PE63 and PE80 grades record the highest sales volume. Water conveyance pipelines are laid across vast plain farmlands, while large-diameter corrugated pipes are adopted for farmland drainage. Resistance to saline-alkali soil and soil corrosion acts as the core performance requirement.
PE100 water supply pipes are the primary option for municipal water supply and renovation of ageing pipe networks, and the consumption of gas pipes maintains steady growth. PPR hot and cold water pipes dominate the home decoration sector and fit central heating systems, while PVC-U sewage pipes are used for indoor drainage in residential compounds. Orders keep rising from self-built houses and government-subsidized housing projects across urban and rural areas.
The region features a huge temperature gap between winter and summer, so pipes need to withstand both high and low temperatures, yet there are no strict permafrost standards like Russia’s. Pipes containing properly proportioned compliant recycled materials are marketable, whereas products made of 100% virgin raw materials are exclusively supplied for government bidding projects.
The mandatory GOST-UZ certification is required for customs clearance, and ISO9001 test reports are additionally needed for bidding projects. Local purchasers are extremely sensitive to unit prices, prefer full-container bulk purchases and complete supporting pipe fittings; local distributors tend to cooperate on credit terms.
In recent years, infrastructure expansion in Tashkent New City and water conservancy projects has pushed up orders for large-diameter HDPE pipes. Meanwhile, demand for PE-RT and PE-X heating pipes rises year by year. The market presents obvious segmentation: low-cost mass-market products serve retail channels, while high-standard virgin-material pipes are specially supplied to municipal engineering projects.
